Detecting Diabetic Retinopathy is a manual time consuming process that takes many economic and specialised staff resources. As the number of diabetics keeps growing and the lack of specialised staff increases, the existing infrastructure for screening diabetic retinopathy will become even more deficient and unsustainable. Faced with the need to have cost effective and accessible tools for improving and automating screening processes at ULMA we have developed a comprehensive solution that can solve that issue by optimising available resources and improving accessibility to this kind of programmes.

Optimising the screening process

Currently, there are systematic screening processes implemented in national health care systems that have a periodical annual or biennial recommended examination for all diabetics. However, in most cases they are not carried out due to a lack of resources. In most cases, ophthalmologists or trained primary care physicians do the screening visually.

Automatic report generation

After diagnosis and recommendations from the specialist, the platform records the study and creates a clinical report that will be sent to both primary care physician and patient.

A complete solution

Our solution gives professionals an automatic, accessible and cost effective tool for aiding diagnosis that helps in prevention and early diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy in diabetic population screening processes. It will make their daily work easier and it optimises resource management and contributes to reducing the prevalence and rate of the illness and, consequently, to lowering the health care costs it entails.

Telemedicine has been proposed as a solution to socio-economic challenges that healthcare systems are facing. Its role in optimising health resources, reducing hospital stays and patients displacements demonstrate the benefits of this kind of tools for improving the efficiency and sustainability of health systems. Our complete solution, allows creating, maintaining, analysing, storing or sending data to support diagnosis, treatment and prevention of eye diseases overcoming geographical and logistical barriers.

Field of Use

Our comprehensive telemedicine services provide easy to use and intelligent capturing devices and medical software that optimises coverage, times, costs and the infrastructure needed to provide specialised ophthalmology screening services. ULMA accompanies the technological solution with remote ophthalmology back-office that support the general practitioners responsible for patient assistance and examinations.

Occupational Health

For employees well-being

The complete teleophthalmology service is beneficial for all types of prevention services reducing internal costs, decreasing the need of specialised staff, increasing accessibility to ophthalmology services and optimising budget allocations.

Residential

For personal empowerment

Adapting Occupational Health services to respond to demographic ageing challenge. This service allows continuous monitoring of elderly people´s health status, whose independence and quality of life can be altered due to the lack of adherence.

We are currently working on new developments for ophthalmology field to offer solutions for glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) diseases, as well as, innovative tools for clinical research. We currently have the following solutions in the development stage.

Artery/vein ratio

For clinical research

Tool for the automatic quantification of retinal blood vessel diameter and measuring artery-vein ratio with potential applications in epidemiological studies of systemic illnesses and clinical trials for drug development.

AMD

Home monitoring

This solution allows AMD patients follow-up with remote home monitoring. It automates analysis and interpretation of pathological biomarkers in OCT images for personalised treatment and optimal progress.

Glaucoma

Control and monitoring

This is a teleophthalmology system for glaucoma diagnosis and screening based on automatic analysis and interpretation of ocular alterations patterns from ophthalmologic exploration combining with patient inherent risk factors.
